Nemuri : Sleep (Japanese)

Nemuri reframes rest (sloth) not as laziness but as a fundamental human right. The idea that rest must be earned and that stillness is avoidance equates production with worth. This piece dismantles that notion, presenting rest as an oasis where mental stillness gives rise to clarity.

Inspired by Audre Lorde’s words, “Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation,” Nemuri amplifies this message within a society that glorifies exhaustion and rewards depletion— where rest has become a luxury in a system that denies individuals the space and time to refuel. Without restoration, people cannot sustain themselves, create, imagine, or continue to grow and evolve.

“7” Series

"7" is a reimagining of the Seven Deadly Sins through the lens of Black womanhood, race, and femininity— transforming them from moral failings into acts of self-preservation, autonomy, and reclamation.

This series challenges the way Black women are denied the right to anger, indulgence, pride, and desire, reframing these "sins" as necessary virtues- pathways to self-awareness, freedom, and intentional living.

Each piece serves as a space where Black women can exist beyond control, expectation, or justification.
