Sovrana : Sovereign (Italian)
Sovrana reframes pride as self-acceptance and inner grounding, rather than something that must be earned, humbled, or externally validated. Inspired by the myth of Icarus, it contrasts performative pride (fragile, reliant on external validation), with a calm, unapologetic confidence within Black women— whose pride is often policed and denied.
In this version, Sovrana does not fall; she transcends. She does not burn in the sun’s light but stands illuminated by it. Where Icarus’ hubris led to his downfall— her pride is secure and monumental. She becomes a part of stone, a blend of mythology and lasting presence, carving her into history instead of erased by it. She is whole without embellishments: true self-worth does not require proof.
The composition challenges who is allowed to take up space and who is allowed to be proud. She does not shrink under the sun’s power, as the sun only burns those who are not prepared to stand in its light.
“7” Series
"7" is a reimagining of the Seven Deadly Sins through the lens of Black womanhood, race, and femininity— transforming them from moral failings into acts of self-preservation, autonomy, and reclamation.
This series challenges the way Black women are denied the right to anger, indulgence, pride, and desire, reframing these "sins" as necessary virtues- pathways to self-awareness, freedom, and intentional living.
Each piece serves as a space where Black women can exist beyond control, expectation, or justification.
